Indian university alumni help out

- POST REPORT, Kathmandu

May 9, 2015-

Alumni from different universities in India, along with some Kathmandu youth, have started distributing the relief material in various parts of Lalitpur district from last week.

The group started out by distributing 100 units of tents, an equal number of blankets and dozens of clothing items in Gotikhel VDC of the district. They also distributed water and food supplies in the VDC, which is one of the most-affected areas in the district. The relief material were distributed to the victims in the presence of the VDC secretary. The youth had raised the money by themselves and had bought the necessary relief material on their own.

According to Bishnu Belbase, one to the members of the team, the youth chipped in Rs 5,000 each in order to purchase the supplies. He also said that they had collected more relief material from various donors, which they have planned to distribute in another VDC of the district, starting this week. “We ourselves have been affected by the quake. But we want to try and manage things for those who are badly in need of aid,” said Belbase. “We want to support those who have lost everything,” he added.
