No sign of US chopper yet, says army

- POST REPORT, Kathmandu

May 13, 2015-

The missing US military UH-1Y Huey helicopter with eight people on board remained untraced for the second day on Wednesday.

The chopper was delivering aid in Dolakha, one of the districts hit hardest by both quakes, on Tuesday when it went missing with six US Marines and two Nepal Army soldiers on board.

There was no sign of the chopper despite a massive ground and aerial search operation by the Nepal Army in the district’s forested and rugged terrain, including Sunkhani area, the Army said in a statement.

Six Nepali helicopters and about 400 soldiers were mobilised to locate the chopper along its probable route from Lapilang, Lamidanda, Sunkhani, Chetrappa and Juvu bases immediately after it lost contact with the control tower at the Kathmandu airport, the statement reads. “The search will continue on Thursday.”
