Art auction for quake victims

- POST REPORT, Kathmandu

May 21, 2015-

Park Gallery, Pulchowk, is hosting a three-day exhibition titled Shape of the Earth, which is scheduled to be inaugurated on Friday at 5pm. The show will feature works by American artists Paige Phillips and Evan Dawson—artists in residence at the Marpha Foundation.

Phillips and Dawson—who have been collaborating since 2011—were invited to Marpha, Mustang, at the end of 2014 to produce a new body of work for the foundation. Their work lies at the intersection between visual and performing arts and investigates bodily experiences and material transformations that coincide with global issues.

Shape of the Earth will have on display two sculptures, performance documentation, and a children’s book made over the past three months.

According to the statement released by the gallery, all pieces were conceived before the recent earthquake, however, themes of love, loss, memory, and mentions of earth-shaping events in the artwork now “have taken on new meaning”.

The works will be made available for purchase through a silent auction, and the foundation will donate all proceeds to relief efforts.
