YAN helps quake victims
May 26, 2015-
The Bhaktapur Chapter of the Youth Association Nepal (YAN) handed over 100 makeshift houses in the district on Tuesday. CPN UML Vice-chairperson Bidhyadevi Bhandari and Industry Minister Mahesh Basnet were present at the programme.
Praising YAN’s work with rescue, relief and rehabilitation, Minister Basnet said: “YAN has always been in the forefront when the country is in need.” According to YAN Chairperson Niru Pal, their team has completed the construction of 497 makeshift houses across the country so far.
Speaking at the programme, Bhandari blamed lack of preparedness and mismanagement for the immense loss of life and property in the aftermath of the earthquake. “State mechanisms seemed weak in the management of natural disasters and this has been a lesson for the future,” she said. She also underscored the urgent need to build shelters for the displaced before the monsoon.
