Gulmelis help Chitwan residents
May 27, 2015-
People from Gulmi who reached Chitwan to help earthquake-displaced families have donated Rs100,000.
Chitwan Maitri Samaj, an organisation of Gulmeli people who work and live in Chitwan, handed over the amount to the local Disaster Management Committee. Chairman of the society Yam Bahadur BK hoped that the amount collected by them would ease the pain of the victims.
Receiving the amount, Coordinator of the Disaster Management Committee Durga Prasad Pande said the amount received from the people of several districts and from outside the country has been a huge help. As of Monday, Rs 2.9 million had been deposited in the committee’s account.
Gulmelis living in Japan contributed the most towards the funds collected—they deposited Rs 1.6 million in the relief account. Likewise, migrants in the United States, the United Kingdom and South Korea, along with other organisations, have also deposited money for the cause.
The earthquake levelled 2,100 houses in the district.
