Makwanpur DEO to set up temp learning centres
May 27, 2015-
The District Education Office (DEO) in Makwanpur plans to resume schools from May 31 by establishing temporary learning centres, managing multiple classes as well as shifts and placing students in nearby schools.
DEO chief Ganesh Paudel said they are going to build 29 learning centres before resuming classes. “One learning centre occupies two rooms,” Paudel said, adding that 60 students can be adjusted in a room. The construction of a learning centre at Debaki Secondary School in Phaparbari was completed on Monday. Some social organisations are also helping set up such learning centres. DEO officials said they need at least 30 bamboos to construct one learning centre. Paudel said they are going to conduct classes in two shifts. Karma Prapti Secondary School, Shramik Secondary School, Chandrodaya Secondary School and Kalika Secondary School, among others, are resuming classes in two shifts so that two classes can be run in the same room.
“We have also managed to conduct classes in some community buildings near the concerned schools. Some partially damaged classrooms will be used after some repairs”, Paudel said.
Officials said they are not going to teach textbooks for a week as teachers will just counsel the students. Paudel said teachers have already attended training on psycho-social counseling.
According to the DEO, of the total 520 schools in the district, 27 have been completely destroyed and 172 have been partially damaged due to the earthquakes. The districts has 4,000 teachers and 126, 000 students.
