Stars help relief efforts

Flame of Hope Nepal, an organisation of Nepali filmmakers and actors, has been busy distributing supplies for weeks now. The organisation has already distributed relief supplies worth about Rs 2,400,000 in districts like Lalitpur, Kavre, Dhading, Lamjung, Sindhupalchok and Kathmandu. The organisation has also started free health camps in Lalitpur and Kavre.

“We are also planning to expand relief work further in the quake-affected districts,” said the chairperson of the organisation, Akash Adhikari, during a programme held at the Royal Banquet, Tinkune, Kathmandu. “Currently we have 90 tents, 100 blankets and mats with us, which we are soon going to distribute to the most-affected and needy victims,” he said. The relief efforts are supported by different individuals and organisations like I to We, Shani Sagarmatha Samaaj, the Nepali Association of Northern California and Global Reach International, among others.

The programme at the banquet premises was attended by noted actors, directors and producers from the entertainment industry. Speaking during the programme, actress Dipashree Niraula said that the producers of the film Chha Ekane Chha will soon be staging a charity show where all the actors featured in the movie will watch the film together with the audience.

Actress Karishma Manandhar, who was in attendance, talked about how the film industry can get back on track. “We have to move forward and start working again soon. We can start with charity shows,” said Manandhar.
