A retired teacher of Lekhani Higher Secondary School in the district has set up a revolving fund of Rs 500,000 at the school.
Former teacher Lila Prasad Pradhan handed over the cash to the school on Wednesday after setting up the Lekhani Higher Secondary Revolving Fund in the memory of his late parents, Dhankumari and Dal Bahadur Pradhan. The fund will be utilised for providing awards and scholarships to one boy and one girl student who obtain the best SLC grades in the school, said chairman of the School Management Committee, Surya Prasad Kandel.
Two years ago, Pradhan provided 10 computers and other electronic equipment worth Rs 500,000 to the school, with the help of his three sons, Bishnu, Gopal and Mahendra and their friends, Thaman Thapa and Tika Karki, all of whom reside in Australia.
He had also donated Rs 201,000 to construct a new block at the school. Five classrooms of the school have sustained damages due to the April 25 earthquake.
Lekhani Higher Secondary has also collected Rs 1.6 million by making requests for donations on the social media website Facebook. “We asked for the donations with the aim of training our students in information technology and improving the infrastructure of the school,” said Kandel. Most of the amount was contributed by Nepalis living abroad.
