Prez inspects quake-hit areas

President Ram Baran Yadav on Friday inspected Singati and other areas hit hardest by the April 25 earthquake and its aftershocks in Dolakha.
Talking to quake victims, President Yadav urged farmers to be motivated towards agriculture. “These three months are the peak time for farming,” said the President, adding that people should prioritise growing crops.
Speaking at an interaction at Barda Bahadur Battalion in Charikot, President Yadav suggested various political parties to encourage quake survivors to b e involved in farming activities. He also requested the government to use its resources to relocated affected people to safer locations and repair roads.
On the occasion, the District Disaster Management Committee informed the President that 59,000 of the total 60,000 houses were destroyed by the quake in the district. The President in response instructed VDC secretaries to assess the damage regarding crops and livestock. “Help the farmers during scarcity,” he said. Yadav crossed a suspension bridge at Singati and inspected the bazaar area. He also talked to local residents and listened to their concerns. Local officials also briefed the President about post-disaster scenario in the district.
Meanwhile, civil society members and representatives of Chamber of Commerce and Industry demanded temporary hospital be set up and security personnel be deputed in the district till October.
