Polio campaign in Tarai
Jun 6, 2015-
The government has started a polio campaign in 22 Tarai districts along the border with India. The country plans to eliminate polio within three years.
The Ministry of Health and Population has informed that the campaign began on Saturday to declare Nepal a “polio free” country by 2018. Health Minister Khaga Raj Adhikari said the country is in zero level of polio. “However, the disease has been witnessed again in between”, said Adhikari.
The last polio affected children were reported in Jajarkot and Rautahat. Since polio cases are still seen in border areas such as Utter Pradesh and Bihar, we initiated the campaign, the minister said.
The campaign has also been started at the Tribhuvan International Airport in the Capital. Banke Public Health Office said they aim to cover 83,082 under the age of five.
Around 800 volunteers and 230 health officers are deployed at 514 immunisation centres in Banke.
