Residents of Baisebichawa model VDC, located in the southern part of Kanchanpur district, have raised funds and relief material worth Rs 379,000 and deposited the amount into the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

According to the locals, the sum was raised through door-to-door collection in the village.

“We started collecting funds from May 13 and continued till May 27,” said VDC secretary Dal Bahadur Negi. “Representatives from political parties, non-governmental organisations and schools also helped with the effort,” he added.

Around 52 quintal of foodstuff and Rs 254,000 in cash was collected by the villagers. “A sum of Rs 125,000 was raised by selling the foodstuff,” said Negi.

The VDC secretary said that the enthusiasm shown by the people in their collective effort could be an example for other development works in the area.

“We didn’t even have to request the people to help. As soon as we would reach somebody’s door, the family would donate whatever they could,” he added.
