Monument proposed to commemorate victims

A monument is to be constructed in memory of people killed in the April 25 earthquake in Bhaktapur. As many as 333 people were killed in the district due to the quake. The memorial is to be constructed in the city area in the district.

The Humanitarian Faith Nepal (Manviya Astha Nepal) Chairman Shree Kumar Ranjit informed that the organisation has verbally asked for one ropani of land with the Bhaktapur Municipality for the purpose. He said they will start constructing the monument after the land is acquired from the municipality.

Meanwhile, lawmaker Kedar Sanjel has announced that he will provide one million rupees for the project. Industry Minister Mahesh Basnet, who is also a patron of the organisation, said that there would be no shortage of fund if the organisation acquired land to construct the monument.

It is said that the monument will also see a memorial programme on the twelfth day of the Nepali month of Baisakh every year.

Bhaktapur Municipality Executive Officer Uddhav Rijal, however, said they have neither received any written letter nor were discussing the plan to provide a plot of land for the organisation as they are busy removing debris these days.
