Settlements inundated following heavy rains
Jun 19, 2015-
Settlements north of the East-West Highway at Lalbandi in the district have been inundated due to overnight rains and overflowing of the Kalinjor River.
The overflowing water is moving northward, passing through Lalbandi Chowk along the East-West Highway. Local Binod Bhattarai said the ground floor of his house is currently five feet under water despite relatively light overnight rainfall.
As the flood is passing over the highway, the pitched sections have developed cracks at several places. Meanwhile, the municipality office is using excavators to build temporary trenches in flooded areas.
In another report, businesses have suffered huge losses due to flooding of several godowns, vice president of Sarlahi Chamber of Commerce Nawaraj Mishra said. Lalbandi is seldom flooded even during heavy rains, but heavy inundation this time and that too after the earthquake has provoked fear among the locals. Likewise, Ishworpur-8 has been flooded by the Fuljor River. Residents of the settlement on the bank of the Jhim River have complained that flood water has seeped inside their homes.
