SC orders Trust to return Prerana’s land

- POST REPORT, Kathmandu

Jun 21, 2015-

The Supreme Court on Sunday instructed the Office of Nepal Trust to return 15.1 ropanis of land to Prerana Shah, daughter of former king Gyanendra Shah.

A plot of land in Chhauni area, which she had received from her parents as a dowry, was taken into control by the office as royal properties on May 24, 2005.

The office brought the land under its ambit without her consent and nor did it provide her a chance to defend, said the ruling delivered by a division bench of Chief Justice Ram Kumar Prasad Shah and justice Cholendra Sumsher Rana.

Prerana had moved the apex court in February with affidavits and testimonials that suggested the plot of land was presented to her by her parents and that she was its rightful owner of the plot.

The office can only nationalise the property of late king Birendra, queen Aishwarya and their children.
