Guests start arriving for summit

Foreign dignitaries and officials have started arriving for the International Conference on Nepal’s Reconstruction.
A total of 53 nations, donor agencies and development partners will attend the conference to be held in the Capital on June 25. According to the Finance Ministry, as many as 300 delegates from home and abroad are expected to attend the one-day meet.
United Nations Under-Secretary-General Gyan Chandra Acharya, Bhutanese Finance Minister Lyonpo Namgay Dorji, Disaster Management Minister of Sri Lanka AHM Fowsie and Jica President Akihiko Tanaka landed in Kathmandu on Tuesday. Representatives from the WHO and DFID also arrived on Tuesday.
The Finance Ministry said Bangladeshi Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Norwegian Minister for International Development Heikki Eidsvoll Holmås and ADB President Takehiko Nakao have confirmed their participation. Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi are attending the summit.
The government invited 37 nations and 23 bilateral donor agencies as well as high-ranking officials to the conference.
According to the Finance Ministry, preparations for the conference are in the final stage. The government had formed a committee under the finance minister to prepare for the event.
Prime Minister Sushil Koirala will inaugurate the conference. A video presentation on the devastation caused by the earthquake and the aspirations to rebuild the country will follow. The government will present the already prepared Post Disaster Needs Assessment Report before inviting participants to speak and commit aid. The visiting delegates will also tour some of the earthquake-affected areas.
