Landslides, floods hit normal life
Jul 7, 2015-
Floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall affected life in various parts of the country within the past 24 hours.
A 19-year-old man was swept away by a flooded stream in Kanchanpur while multiple landslides in Lamjung district damaged micro hydropower and drinking water projects at various places. A number of people left their houses in Rasuwa fearing landslide.
In Kanchanpur, one Raman Joshi went missing in the rain-swollen Chaudhar stream at Suda-5 on Tuesday. Police Inspector Karna Bahadur Bam said the victim was swept away as he attempted to wade across the flooded stream.
Our correspondent from Lamjung said floods and landslides damaged Mahavirkhola Micro Hydropower Project and Arubotekhola Hydropower Project in Bichaur, Paisekhola Hydropower Project in Ilampokhari and Phiri Paichekhola Hydropower Project on Monday night.
In Rasuwa, several houses at Daandagaun-5 are at high risk of landslide as the area is receiving continuous rainfall since Monday. People of about 20 households in the area have already left their houses after landslides from Silajitdhunge cliff reached the settlement. They are now taking refuge at Diyali in the same VDC. Gaurav Sapkota, a local resident, said the area sank more than a foot, leaving the villagers in fear.
