Six hurt in Rolpa blast
Jul 11, 2015-
Six members of a family were injured, one critically, when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off in a house at Thawang VDC in Rolpa on Saturday.
Shreeprasad Gharti Magar and his five family members sustained injuries in the blast that occurred at around 7am. The explosion was powerful enough to destroy the two-storey house.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramesh Thapa said that a police team was immediately dispatched to the site after the District Police Office was informed about the incident.
The police team has cordoned off the scene of the explosion, suspecting that there could be other explosives lying around. A technical team from the Nepal Army (NA) also set off for Thawang to investigate the incident. The NA team is expected to reach the village by Sunday. Police suspect that the IED belonged to Maoist rebels during the insurgency. It was not clear if the explosive was kept in the house during insurgency or later. Rolpa was the heartland of the Maoist insurgency.
