Chasing Rainbows at Theatre Mall
Aug 1, 2015-
Indreni Khojdai Jaada (Chasing Rainbows), an alternative Nepali film, is currently being screened at the Theatre Mall: a house of art and culture, Sundhara, Kathm-andu. The film, which was previously screened at last year’s edition of KIMFF (where it was the winner of the best fiction film), and the Toronto Nepali Film Festival, premiered at Theatre Mall on Friday. Although the film was produced in 2013, this is the first time it is being screened for a larger audience. The story of the film, directed by Sahara Sharma and produced by Abhimanyu Dixit, revolves around three siblings who have been taking shelter in a rented flat in Kathmandu. The film explores the reality and the expectations of its characters.
According to the film’s producers: “Chasing Rainbows is textured with the love, hatred, dreams, bliss, predicaments, and all those emotions a normal family in Kathmandu is bound to deal with.” For Theatre Mall, which has been staging plays since 2014, this is a new experiment. “Our theatre aims to promote Nepali arts and culture, and we are trying to provide a platform for various art forms. In the present context, where the creators are struggling to find a proper platform, we hope our endeavour will be of help,” says Kedar Shrestha, arts director at Theatre Mall.
The screening started on July 31 and will be on till August 15, beginning at 5:30 pm every day (except for Wednesdays).
