Rainwaters inundate Dhangadhi

Dhangadhi Bazaar area in Kailali district has been inundated following the incessant rainfall since Saturday night. Some families were displaced as rainwaters entered their houses.
Chatakpur, Bishalnagar, Omshantitol, Santoshitol, Campusroad, Shivanagar, Hasanpur among other places were waterlogged. Security personnel rescued about 100 people and took them to safer locations. According to police, one Bhumika Baduwal of Dhangadhi-1 was rescued when she nearly drowned in floodwaters as she was fleeing her house. She was taken to Seti Zonal Hospital for treatment.
“We have rescued the people from the waterlogged houses along with their belongings. Rainwaters entered into the ground floor of the houses in the affected area,” said Superintendent of Police Bikram Chand. He said some 300 houses have been inundated in the area.
Factories, industries, educational institutions and the market places largely remained closed on Sunday. Traffic was also affected due to the inundation. The water level gradually receded as it stopped raining after noon. According to meteorological station in Attariya, Dhangadhi received 114 mm rainfall overnight. Similarly, a flashflood triggered by the heavy rainfall swept away three houses at Bhimdutta-9 in Kanchanpur. Floods also destroyed paddy planted in about four bighas of land in Khalla Masetti, said police.
