18 dead, over 60 injured in two separate road accidents

Eighteen people died and more than 60 others were injured, some critically, in two separate road accidents in Pyuthan and Mahottari districts on Monday. 

Ten people died when a bus skidded off the road and plunged 200 meters down at Pyuthan Municipality-3 in Pyuthan district. The vehicle (Na 3 Kha 8383) belonging to Swargadwari Public Transportation Committee fell off the road while avoiding a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction near Nepal Army Barrack in Pyuthan-3, police said. Six people died on the spot, three succumbed to injuries at hospital while one died on the way to Bhairahawa for treatment.The deceased have been identified as Maya KC of Pyuthan-15, Narendra GC of Torwang-5, bus driver Dan Bahadur Pokhrel of Torwang-6, Sita Pandit of Gadhwa in  Dang, Sandesh Sunar of Khalanga, Lanka Bahadur Rahu Magar of Kapilvastu and Hasta Bahadur Basnet of Khaira -6.The identities of three other deceased had not been established as of late evening. Twenty-four passengers sustained injuries in the accident. Seriously injured 11 were referred to Bhairahawa while others are receiving treatment in the district. The ill-fated bus was heading for Bangefedi from Khalanga, the district headquarters. Nepal Army, Nepal Police and the locals rescued the victims. Nepal Red Cross Society local chapter provided primary treatment to the injured. 

In Mahottari, a bus carrying Bol Bom pilgrims overturned at Bardibas Municipality-5 on the BP Highway, killing eight persons. More than 40 others were injured, some critically. 

The bus (Ja 1 Kha 529) was returning from a pilgrimage to Langar Mahadev in Sindhuli district. Five persons, including a woman, died on the spot while three others died in course of treatment, police said. The deceased had not been identified till late evening.
