11 die in separate landslides

At least 11 people died in separate incidents of landslide in Doti, Gulmi, Dolakha and Rolpa districts in past two days.
Six persons, including five family members, were buried to death at Daud VDC in Doti district on Monday night. According to VDC secretary Lal Bahadur Bogati, Dewa Bista (36) and her children Harka (12), Saraswati (10), Bir Bahadur (5) and six-month-old Bhawana died when a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall buried their house at Daud-3. One Dambar Bista sustained injuries in the incident. He is receiving treatment at a local health post.
Thirty-two families at Bhalma settlement in Daud-3 have left their homes, fearing landslide. Acting Chief District Officer Mohanraj Joshi said that the displaced are taking shelter at a local school. Likewise, 27 households have reportedly left their settlement at neighbouring Tolani VDC because of landslide threat.
Security personnel from Nepal Army and Nepal Police have been deployed in the landslide-affected areas for rescue works. Similarly, Chandra Devi Singh, 83, died in a landslide at Daud-1. The landslides in the VDC damaged some houses and a school building.
In Gulmi, there members of a family died when a landslide buried a house at Dibrung VDC-3 on Tuesday morning.Inspector Ram Prasad Poudel informed that Usha Sharki, 35, her son Gagan, 9, and daughter Indu, 3, were killed in the incident.
Usha’s two daughters Sushma, 13, and Renu, 11, were rescued by the locals. Usha’s husband Khadga Bahadur is in Saudi Arabia for employment.
In Dolakha, Riju Giri, 14, died when a landslide buried a house at Dandakharka VDC on Monday night.
Four other persons sustained injuries in the incident, police said.
In Rolpa district, 55-year-old Lakshiram Gharti Magar died when a house collapsed following a heavy rainfall at Talabang VDC-3 on Monday.
