In the wake of loss of lives during violent protests in Surkhet, the National Human Rights Commission has urged the government and protesters to observe restraint.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the national rights body has expressed concern over Monday’s incident where two citizens were killed and severel others injured in police firing during a demonstration in Surkhet.

Protests have erupted in districts of the mid and far-western regions against the demarcation of provinces under the six-state deal. The commission has asked the government to arrange for treatment of the injured, while urging the agitating sides to put forth their demands in a peaceful manner. (PR)
