SAF’s lecture series to kick off
Aug 12, 2015-
Siddhartha Arts Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that has hosted several exhibitions in the past at the Siddhartha Art Gallery in Babermahal, Kathmandu, is hosting a series of lectures titled ‘Kala ko Bisaya’ starting on August 14.
The lecture series is part of the organisation’s education initiative, Siddhartha Arts Foundation’s Education Initiative (SAFEI).
The Siddhartha Arts Foundation was started in 2011; its education initiative aims to develop a culture of curatorship, criticism, and management practices in the Nepal Art Industry.
The lecture series will be conducted by professional artists and experts such as Sabitri Mainali, Sudarshan Tiwari, and Lok Chitrakar, at the Siddhartha Art Gallery from 11 am to 1 pm on dates: August 14, August 21, August 28, and September 4. The four lecture sessions are to be followed by an international workshop on art criticism in mid-September.
The use of aesthetics in Nepali art will be discussed during these lecture sessions, ranging from ancient aesthetics to modern and contemporary aesthetics of Nepali art. “It is very important for art writers to bridge the gap between art and society.
So many artists are championing social issues such as gender discrimination, but society is not made aware of this,” says Nischal Oli, project coordinator at SAFEI. “Our education initiative aims to introduce art writers in the media and others to the basic concepts of Nepali art and of art criticism.”
