Sick baby left in church, dies

A seriously ill nine-month old baby who was left in a church by her mother at Kushma-9 in Parbat district died on Monday.Locals said that the mother, Basanti Nepali, had been leaving her daughter in the church during the day time for the past several days, hoping that some miracle would cure the baby girl, Esther.
“I saw the mother leave the church after putting her daughter inside the church this morning. I was shocked to learn about baby’s death,” said Gyani Nepali.
Basanti admitted to leaving her daughter at the church. “I had left her at the church at around 9’o clock. I don’t know what happened afterwards,” she said.
Ram Limbu, the church operator, said Basanti used to keep her child in one of the rooms inside the church building. “The child’s condition suddenly worsened on Monday. She passed away that very day,” Limbu said.
The incident came to light after the relatives of Basanti reported to police that baby Esther had died under suspicious circumstances.Police Inspector Lok Bahadur Gurung said they have sent the body to the district hospital for autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Meanwhile, locals protested the local before police office on Tuesday, demanding legal action against church operator Limbu.
