Nepal will be keen to put their one foot in a maiden title when they play India in the Saff U-16 Championship semi-final against India in Sylhet, Bangladesh on Sunday.

Although Nepal head into the match as the Group ‘B’ winners, India will still be the favourites as the defending champions had defeated Nepal 1-0 in the final of the previous edition. It would be Nepal’s third consecutive semi-final appearance in the tournament. They had finished third in second edition.

Nepal had opened the tournament with a crushing 5-0 victory over Maldives before edging Afghanistan 1-0. India, meanwhile, were stunned 2-1 by hosts Bangladesh on Friday. Bangladesh will take on Afghanistan in first semi.

The match on Sunday will not only give coach Upendra Man Singh an opportunity to avenge the loss of the previous final but also underline their supremacy in the tournament. Singh was confident that title will not elude Nepal this time. “I am confident that my boys will maintain the winning momentum. They are fit both mentally and physically to take on India,” Singh told Anfa’s official website.
