The sudden change in weather system influenced by the rain-bearing low pressure system developed across the Uttar Pradesh and Bay of Bengal since Sunday, releasing intense rains in some places in Central and Western Nepal on Monday and now it is moving towards Eastern Region.
The weather authorities have advised the people living close to the major rivers in the Eastern Region to remain alert against possible floods.
Meanwhile, the water level at Saptakoshi River has increased significantly due to continuous rains since Monday afternoon.
Ravi Lal Pant, chief district officer of Sunsari, said the water flow at Saptakoshi was recorded at 193,930 cusec on Tuesday evening. The local administration lifted 23 of the 52 floodgates at Koshi Barrage to bring down the water level.
According to the MFD, Lumle recorded the highest rainfall at 120.5 mm on Tuesday, followed by Okhaldhunga (42.5mm), Janakpur (34.2mm), Jiri (15.2mm), Nepalgunj (14.9mm) and Biratnagar (14.3mm) respectively.
