4 die, 60 hurt in road accidents

At least four people die and more than 60 others were injured, some critically, in separate road accidents in Kapilvastu, Dang, Kavre and Darchula districts within the past 24 hours.

A Dhangadhi-bound bus swerved off the road and fell some 20 metres at Shivaraj-1 on the East-West Highway in Kapilvastu, killing two people and injuring 25 others. Five of the injured are reportedly in critical condition.

The injured are receiving treatment at Lumbini Zonal Hospital. Police identified the deceased as Sher Bahadur Kunwar of Punarbas-3 in Kanchanpur and Mukunda Thapa of Neulapur-4 in Bardiya district.

In Dang, two motorcyclists died when their vehicles collided at Ghorahi-1 on Monday night. Police said Purna Chandra Poudel of Ghorahi-11 and Bhupendra Puri of Ghorahi-5 died in the incident.

Likewise, more than 20 people were injured in a truck accident at Mahankalchaur-4 in Kavre. Nine among the injured, according to police, are in critical condition.

Our correspondent in Darchula said 17 people were injured, four critically, in a jeep accident at Api Municipality-8. Most of the victims are residents of Khar VDC who were on their way to Khalanga, the district headquarters of Darchula, to buy goods for Dashain.
