A meeting of coalition partners, including CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist), on Wednesday agreed to form such cross-party mechanism under the leadership of Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal by incorporating key leaders from other parties. Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal of UML, Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Loktantrik and Kamal Thapa of Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, among others, have been named the members of the proposed committee.
A senior UML leader involved in the meeting said the parties have agreed to activate HLPC to make the government functioning effective and service oriented. The parties have formed similar mechanism while the then Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi-led electoral government was formed in 2012. Heads of major parties had led it on rotation basis.
“The committee could not work effectively at that time as we had expected. We are trying to make this committee more effective so that the government could give visible output to the people,” said a UML leader involved in the cross party meeting.
