Babu Sherpa claimed the Samsung Open golf championship here at the Gokarna Golf Course on Saturday.

Playing with eight handicap, Babu pipped Ang Babu Sherpa on better scores in the last six holes. Both the amateur golfers hand finished their round with an identical scores of 39 points, 20 on the front nine and 19 on the back nine. But Babu was declared the winner for his 12 points scored in the last six holes against the 11 of his nearest rival during the same period. Babu away with a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 for his effort.

Tashi Tshiring accumulated 36 gross points to be the best gross winner. Tshiring’s son, Tenzing won the Under-17 junior category award with 42 points. Rekha Ghimire clinched the ladies category award after scoring 27 points which earned here a Samsung gear S2. Ujin Shim scored 25 points to finish second behind Ghimire. Lobsang Tashi won the senior (above 60-yrs) category trophy with 34 points.

Dhruba Thapa took home the closest-to-the-pin honour, while Binayak Basnyat grabbed the longest drive award and Tashi Tshering the most birdies accolade. All the winners got Samsung VIP combo set. In all, 110 golfers took part in the event played under stableford format with 3/4 handicap allowance.
