Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is expected to address the nation sometime this week over the ongoing crisis in the Tarai and critical shortages of essentials including fuel due to restrictions on the border with India.

“The prime minister will address the nation most probably on Tuesday over how to move ahead in the context of the country reeling under a fuel crisis following a blockade imposed by India,” said CPN-UML Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, a close aide to PM Oli.

A core team of the prime minister is preparing the speech to be delivered in Parliament. The address, according to leaders privy to the developments, will inform the people about the national political scenario, and efforts made to ease the hardships arising from the blockade.

PM Oli, after a month in office, is expected to thank the people for their support to the government despite the hardship created by critical shortages of essentials.

A cross-party taskforce representing key coalition partners is also finalising the government’s common minimum programme. The prime minister would highlight key policies to be adopted by his government, said informed sources.
