Police had also tried to disperse protesters who were staging the sit-in along the highway.
Some SLMM protesters were also injured during the clash after police resorted to baton charge. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Narayan Prasad Chimariya said 17 of the protesters who had been arrested during the incident were released on Monday.
Similarly, life returned to normal in Bara on Monday with the markets at Kalaiya, Jitpur, Parwanipur among other places in the district reopening for Deepawali and Chhath festivals after three months.
Upendra Yadav, Chairman of Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum Nepal, one of the constituents of the agitating Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha, said protests in the Tarai, however, would be continued till their demands are duly addressed.
Speaking at a press meet in Gulariya on Monday, Yadav said they would step up their protest after Deepawali and Chhath festivals. Meanwhile, Chairman of Rastriya Madhes Samajbadi Party Sarat Singh Bhandari called on the government to involve the main opposition Nepali Congress in the negotiation process with the agitating Madhesi parties.

22 fuel tankers enter Nepal from south
DHANGADI: Twenty-two fuel tankers entered Nepal from the south in the past 24 hours after Indian authorities relaxed some border points in Tarai region. Three tankers of diesel crossed into Nepal from Trinagar Customs point in Kailali on Monday, according to the Trinagar Customs Office. A tanker carrying aviation fuel entered Nepal through the Nepalgunj-Rupahidia border point. The vehicular moverment has increased at the Sunauli-Bhairahawa border point after Indian customs relaxed security after a week on Monday. Three tankers of diesel and as many gas bullets and two petrol tankers entered Nepal from Sunauli-Bhairahawa border point on Monday. With that a total of 18 fuel trucks have crossed the border into Nepal after 10 fuel tankers entered through the point on Sunday night.
