PM picks Rimal as political adviser

Prime Minister KP Oli has appointed CPN-UML politburo member Bishnu Rimal as his chief political adviser. Rimal, who hails from Nuwakot district, is president of UML’s trade union - General Federation of Nepalese Trade Union (GEFONT). He is also the coordinator of party’s financial department. Rimal has been actively involved in politics since1990. Pradip Gyawali and Shanker Pokhrel, who are close to Prime Minister Oli, were said to be in the race for the post of chief political adviser. But PM Oli decided to appoint Rimal as his chief political adviser after Gyawali and Pokhrel chose to work for the party. “We refused to take formal positions, but we are ready to help the prime minister whenever needed,” Gyawali said. Gyawali is in informal negotiations with Madhes-based parties to resolve the ongoing crisis . Similarly, Devendra Dahal has been appointed as a political expert. Dahal is UML leader currently working in party’s Jhapa district unit.
