“A new constitution has been recently promulgated and the country is going through a transitional phase and the responsibility of implementing the constitution has fallen on my shoulders. Let me assure you I will fulfil my responsibility remaining within the boundary of the constitutional power bestowed upon me,” the President said addressing a programme organised by the National Women Commission in Kathmandu on Monday.
President Bhandari said she was aware that the success of her tenure will be gauged as the success of the entire nation while her failure will be measured by the gender yardstick. “My position does not allow me to show inclination or affection to any particular caste, race, gender or people of any part of the country, but for the larger interest of the country. This I believe will ultimately contribute to the development of women as well,” she said.
She added that her immediate focus will be on restoring the geographical integrity of the country.
Later in the day, South Asian Women Development Forum (SAWDF) also called on the President at her office, Sheetal Niwas, and congratulated her on being elected the first female head of the state.
The SAWDF delegation also apprised President Bhandari of the organisation’s works in the Saarc region.
