NHRC team off to qatar
A high-level team of the National Human Rights Commission left for Qatar on Saturday to take stock of the situation of Nepali migrant workers there.A high-level team of the National Human Rights Commission left for Qatar on Saturday to take stock of the situation of Nepali migrant workers there.
The group is scheduled to meet the president of National Human Rights Committee of Qatar to discuss the state of Nepalis working in Qatar and ways to protect their rights and improve their working conditions.
According to Bed Prasad Bhattarai, acting secretary of the NHRC, the visit will largely focus on sharing information about the status of Nepali migrant workers in Qatar and finding ways to establish coordination between the human rights bodies of the two countries. The human rights bodies of the two countries are also expected to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to safeguard the rights of Nepalis working in Qatar.
Similarly, the three-member delegation, headed by NHRC Chairman Anup Raj Sharma, during its five-day visit to Qatar is also scheduled to meet various groups of Nepali migrant workers in the Gulf state.
According to a press release issued by the NHRC, the high-level team was invited by the National Human Rights Committee of Qatar.
