Activists of the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM) vandalised dozens of vehicles and torched a cargo truck at Dhalkebar in the past 24 hours.

Police said protesters torched the truck (Na 5 Kha 9092) carrying raw materials to a bag factory on Thursday. The SLMM supporters also hurled stones at the vehicles which were being escorted along the East-West Highway on Wednesday night.

Similarly, 29 activists of CK Raut were arrested from Rautahat and Bara districts on Thursday. They were chanting slogans for an independent Madhes during the rallies held in the districts. The protesters have been detained at District Police Office for investigation, police said.

Healthcare services in Saptari have been affected for the fifth day as hospitals remained closed in protest of last week’s police attack on the staff and patients at the Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital.

Meanwhile, Sadbhawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato told a press conference in Saptari on Thursday that holding talks with the CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist) has no meaning until the Nepali Congress joins in.

Chure Bhawar vows to foil obstruction

RAUTAHAT: The Chure Bhawar Rastriya Party has announced that they will not allow SLMM protesters to obstruct the East-West Highway. At a protest programme in Chandrani-gahapur on Thursday, the party decided to prevent SLMM protests in the areas along the highway. “We will not let anyone organise banda and strike in Bhawar state,” said Party Chairman Badri Prasad Neupane, warning of a strong retaliation against any demonstrations in the areas.
