A two-day international workshop on “Institutionalisation of Energy Efficiency” that concluded on Friday, participants, including experts, policy makers and development partners, discussed various measures and activities that help improve energy efficiency.
Speaking at the programmer, Yuba Raj Khatiwada, vice-chairperson of the National Planning Commission, said institutionalisation of energy efficiency is crucial to achieving national development strategy by enhancing energy access and improving energy security in Nepal.
The Ministry of Energy (MoE) has been implementing a National Energy Efficiency Programme with support from the German Development Cooperation-GIZ since 2010 to help improve efficient use of energy in Nepal. Suman Prasad Sharma, MoE secretary, said that while designing an appropriate policy and institutional framework is not an easy task, achievements of energy efficiency goals and targets largely depend on the level of commitment from key stakeholders.
Over 100 participants representing Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Germany, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan and Thailand participated in the conference and shared experiences on progress achieved in promoting energy efficiency, success factors and models of institutional arrangements in the respective countries.
