The Nepali Congress has started a nationwide campaign to inform cadres and ordinary people about the contents of the new constitution.

The Policy and Training Academy of the largest party launched this campaign across the country on Tuesday to facilitate the constitution implementation process.

The government also announced a month-long campaign on Monday to dispel the misconceptions about the new charter. The NC campaign that started in the far-western region will cover other parts of the country gradually.

Madhu Acharya, executive director of the Academy, said the campaign would be focused on the Tarai.

Madhes-based parties have been protesting against some provisions of the new constitution for more than three months. The major parties are facing obstacles in the plains to launch any programmes and activities in favour of the new statute.

NC leaders feel that the new constitution has addressed most concerns of the Madhesi people but the information has not been properly disseminated among the public.

Leaders of the party in opposition are of the view that the NC should take a lead in constitution implementation the same way it led the constitution drafting process.

Implementation of the new constitution has emerged as a challenging job and the campaign is said to facilitate the task. Party President Sushil Koirala, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel are scheduled to address party meetings as part of the drive.
