Gharti on Monday met leaders from three major political parties and asked them to end the deadlock. She asked Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Nepali Congress Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel to resolve the issue immediately.
The House has been obstructed since November 9 due to protests by the Madhesi parties and the Nepali Congress. The agitating and opposition parties are at odds over the presentation of the Constitution Amendment Bill.
While the NC demands parallel discussion on the National Reconstruction Authority Bill and the constitution amendment proposal, the agitating Madhesi parties want only the Reconstruction Bill to move first.
According to Babin Sharma, press advisor to Gharti, the major parties have agreed to come up with an amicable solution before the House meeting at 1pm on Tuesday. “The leaders have assured the Speaker that they will find a middle path by Tuesday noon,” said Sharma. The parties discussed ways to create a win-win situation for both the NC and the agitating regional parties.
