The report presented by leader Narahari Acharya-led panel has drawn criticism at the party CWC meeting. The panel was formed to investigate the malpractices occurred during the distribution of active membership to party cadres. The active members elect a convention representative who in turn has a say in electing the leadership.
Top leaders President Sushil Koirala, Sher Bahadur Deuba and Ram Chandra Poudel are competing to grant active membership to cadres close to them.
The CWC meeting has decided that the panel will complete its tasks within three days and submit a report to President Koirala, who will then forward the list of active members to party’s internal election committee. After the finalisation of active membership, preparations for the convention will take momentum, according to leaders. More than half a dozen leaders close to Koirala have objected the panel report, arguing that it has distributed the membership haphazardly.
