Ancient monastery awaits repair

Around two century-old historical Buddhist monastery at Fikkal in Suryodaya Municipality is in dilapidated condition for want of conservation.
Spread over 65 ropanis of land, the monastery that carries identity of local Lapcha community has been damaged at various places.
Moreover, the locals said that the monastery was robbed of some valuables like cold, diamond and pearl-coated idols and documents around 40 years ago due to a lack of proper management and conservation.
Bir Bahadur Lapcha, chairman of Lapcha Upliftment Forum, said that despite their calls to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development and the District Development Committee for repair, no initiatives have been taken to conserve the monastery. Locals said what they got from the respective ministry so far is only
Rs 30,000, which they said was too little amount to carry out the repair.
