constitution amendment bill tabled

- Post Report, Kathmandu

Dec 24, 2015-

The government on Wednesday tabled the bill on first amendment to the Constitution for discussion in Parliament amid a protest from the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha.

The discussion, however, could not commence as the main opposition Nepali Congress and other fringe parties sought a few more days to bring the agitating parties on board.

Minister for Industry Som Prasad Pandey tabled the bill even as Morcha lawmakers chanted slogans.

Speaker Onsari Gharti then postponed the Parliament business till Sunday, without entering into amendment proposal, as per an agreement in the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting held earlier on the day. In the meeting attended by senior leaders of various political parties and the chief whips, Gharti had asked everyone to help resume the House proceedings.
