Stir continues in Tarai districts

At least six supporters of Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM) were injured when protesters and security personnel clashed at Malangwa in Sarlahi on Thursday evening.Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramesh Khadka said the clashes erupted after SLMM protesters hurled around 100 Molotov cocktails towards police. Security personnel lobbed six tear gas canisters and fired 36 rounds of rubber bullets to bring the situation under control. Police used extra force after the SLMM protesters started vandalising properties near District Irrigation Office and Drinking Water Office, Khadka said.SLMM leaders informed that Ram Bhajan and Aabhas Mansur were injured by rubber bullets. The area remained tense after police arrested Morcha leader Ashok Yadav on Sunday night.Likewise, SLMM supporters also torched a jeep with Indian number plate at Bankalu bazaar in Rautahat on Wednesday night. The vehicle (BR 01 PA 6798) was loaded with 500 litres of diesel. Police said the vehicle was completely destroyed in the incident. Morcha supporters also torched a cargo truck at Garuda Bazaar in the district on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, SLMM protesters took out a torch rally in Rajbiraj on Thursday to mark the 132nd day of their protests.
Hundreds of Morcha leaders and cadres participated in the rally that took a tour around city before converging into a corner meet at Janaandolan Chowk. The Madhes-based parties, which have been demanding broader rights for Madhesis and redrawing of provincial boundaries, recently announced additional protest programmes saying that the government ignored their agendas. As a part of the new protest programmes, they took out torch rallies at Rajbiraj, Bhardaha, Rupani and other places in the district. The agitating parties have been demanding that the proposal to amend the constitution should be revised.
