Ideal, Saipal in quarters

KATHMANDU: Hosts Ideal English HS School ‘A’ and Saipal Academy ‘B’ entered the quarter-finals of the Ideal Cup Inter-college Six-A-Side Football Tournament on Friday. Ideal hammered KU City College 5-1 with Sanjeev Shrestha scoring a hat-trick and Nishant Pokharel adding the other two for the winners. Raju Bhandari pulled one back for KU. Saipal got walkover win from Ace. Joining them in the last eight were Pentagon and Nasa International. Nasa beat Jay Multiple Campus 4-2 and Nasa edged Times International 3-2. (PR)

Kansakar stuns Thapa Magar

LALITPUR: Prabin Bir Singh Kansakar stunned two-time defending champion Amrit Thapa Magar to enter the men’s singles final of the third Civil Bank Open Squash Championship on Friday. Kansakar won 13-11, 11-8, 5-11, 4-11, 12-10 and will clash with Thapa Magar’s father Hira Bahadur for the title. Hira Bahadur ousted Arhant Keshar Singh 11-7, 11-5, 5-11, 11-8. Krishna Thapa set the women’s single title match against Bhawana Sunuwar. Making it to the U-17 boys’ singles final were Amir Blon and Deepak Thapa. Amir defeated Bijay Magar 11-3, 11-2, 11-5 and Thapa saw off  Bikram Magar 11-8, 11-2, 4-11, 11-9 in the semi-finals. (PR)

Valley Public lift trophy

KATHMANDU: Valley Public and Himalayan Helpless Child Academy (HHCA) won the 10th Valley Public Inter-school Basketball Championship titles on Friday. The hosts beat HHCA 30-17 in the girls’ final, while HHCA avenged their defeat in the girls’ final by claiming the boys’ championship. HHCA beat Valley Public 50-32 in boys’ final. Raj Kumar Rai and Laxmi Chaudhary were adjudged the most valuable players of the tournament. (PR)
