A group of youth activists is heading to the Tarai on Sunday to provide financial assistance to people who lost their family members during the ongoing protests.

Lead by Ishan, who wished to identify himself with just his first name, the team has identified three families–one each from Birgunj, Kalaiya and Bhardaha–who are in the most need. According to Ishan, they have already raised Rs 300,000 as part of their bid to collect Rs 1 million from donations.

“I travelled to Tarai districts from east to west after the protests began and saw the miserable condition of families which had lost their breadwinners,” Ishan said. “Although our plan is to establish a fund with Rs1 million and to provide them a monthly income source, we thought we could begin with the amount we have collected so far.” Ishan said all three families have lost their breadwinners. Their widows are facing difficulties to provide for their children. The woman in Birgunj has two kids--a three year old and a one-and-a-half year old. Likewise, the woman in Kalaiya has a newborn baby while the woman in Bhardaha is pregnant.
