Lama, Rana win U-18 singles

In the final matches at the Satdobato Tennis Complex, the duo registered contrasting victories in winning the title. While Lama inflicted a double bagel defeat to Bibek Shrestha, Mahika had to rally from a set down to beat Ani Mathema 6-7, 7-5, 6-1.
In the semi-finals, Mahika had overcome her twin sister Mayanka and Ani had also beaten her twin sister Catherine. The winners and runners-up in both categories earned Rs 25,000 and Rs 12,500 respectively. Prashant Basnet triumphed in the U-14 boys’ singles final.
Basnet eased to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Dipesh KC. Ira Rawat had won the girls’ title in the same age category overcoming Abhilasha Bista. The top two got Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000. Aditya Subedi and Suvangi Laxmi Shah had won the U-9 titles with Aarav Samrat Hada and Rayna Shah claiming U-10 top honours.
On Friday, Lama had claimed the doubles title combining with Sakshyam Karki while Mahika’s first title also came through the girls’ double pairing her sister Mayanka. The doubles winners and runners-up got Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000. The U-9 and U-10 winners also got their share of cash prizes.
On the sidelines of the prize distribution, the All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association also honoured tennis coach Ram Krishna GC. A total of 101 players participated in the five-day tournament.
