Around 30 Morcha supporters stopped the vehicle (Ba 13 Cha 495) at Parwanipur Chowk along the Birgunj-Pathlaiya road stretch and torched the vehicle at around 6am. The vehicle was returning after delivering newspapers in Birgunj. Senior dispatcher Ganesh Khadka said Morcha cadres had stopped the vehicle and doused it with petrol. They also manhandled the vehicle staff and seized their mobile phones.
The police post in Parwanipur, a kilometre from the site, was informed about the incident. The vehicle was completely damaged in the arson. Sub-inspector Paramananda Yadav of the post said the incident occurred early in the morning when there was no presence of police.
The SLMM, however, denied its involvement in the arson. Morcha local leader Pradeep Yadav said their cadres were not involved in the incident. Meanwhile, the Sanghiya Samabesi Madhesi Gathabandhan condemned the incident.
