The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Thursday caught a director at the Department of Transport Management while taking bribe from service seekers.

A team deployed from the anti-graft body arrested director Nabin Kumar Pokharel from the department at Baneshwor with the bribe money.

The CIAA said in a statement that the Nepalgunj customs office had asked a bicycle trader to produce the recommendation from the department to import 36 electric scooters from the Avon company.

When bicycle traders approached the Baneshwor-based office, Pokharel had reportedly demanded Rs5,000 in bribe for each of the 36 scooters to get the recommendations. Based on information provided by the service seekers, the CIAA-deployed officials had napped Pokharel.

“The CIAA team arrested him while taking Rs180,000 from the service seekers,” CIAA spokesman Krishna Hari Puskar stated.
