Medical examinations on Sadbhawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato have started after he was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Haryana, India on Friday evening.
“Mahato’s health is normal. We took MRI, CT scan and X-ray as some parts of his arms and legs are swelling and a finger has been found fractured,” said Dr Shuvanka Singh. The hospital said he would be kept under observation for two days.
A group of orthopaedics, neurologists and neurosurgeons are providing care. Seven specialists on blood pressure and blood sugar are also involved in treatment.
Mahato had sustained injuries during a clash between the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha activists and police in Biratnagar on December 26. He was taken to New Delhi for further treatment on Friday evening.
Mahato’s wife Shaila, party assistant Shailesh Sah and local journalist Pankaj Das are with him at the hospital. “He cannot move both his hands freely. Sugar level has not come under control yet,” said Shaila. She told the Post that she had no knowledge about who is paying for the expenses.
Soon after the clash Mahato was admitted to the Biratnagar-based Golden Hospital. He was later taken to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan.
The party had taken initiatives to take Mahato to India for treatment. He was rushed to Medanta Hospital by ambulance soon after he landed in New Delhi.
