The National Senior Citizen Federation has expressed deep grief over the deaths of senior citizens owing to severe cold in various parts of the country.

Issuing a joint press release recently, the Federation’s Chairman Dr Gaurishankar Lal Das and General Secretary Chhatra Bahadur Pradhan drew the attention towards the plight of senior citizens and urged the government and stakeholders to save their lives.

“In view of the growing cold, the government needs to immediately distribute Rs 10,000 as immediate relief to the earthquake-suffered families, while the reconstruction authority needs to launch the construction of houses favourable to the senior citizens who are living in the temporary shelters; and the district natural disaster rescue committees should immediately cooperate and coordinate with the senior citizens’ associations in the respective district,” the statement said.

Proper food, and clothes as blankets need to be distributed to the senior citizens affected by cold wave in the southern plains, the Federation has stated.
