Nepali Congress Vice-president of Ram Chandra Poudel is heading to India on a five-day visit beginning on Monday.

At a time when the Nepali Congress is gearing up for its 13th General Convention, Poudel’s trip to the southern neighbour has raised a few eyebrows within his party. He is claiming to lead the party through the upcoming convention.

According to his aide, he will be visiting Haridwar, a popular Hindu pilgrimage near the Indian capital, before meeting senior Cabinet ministers of the Indian government in New Delhi. During his two-day stay in Haridwar, Poudel will meet Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev, among others.

In New Delhi, Poudel is scheduled to meet External Affairs Minister of India Sushma Swaraj, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, senior BJP leaders and political leaders from the ruling and opposition parties.

He will also pay a courtesy call on senior officials of the Indian government. His visit was arranged by Patanjai Yogapith, sources said.
